InfoPoint

Urban planning

The InfoPoint of Taranto is the place through which to embark on a journey to discover the Territory. The activities carried out, not limited to sites of tourist interest, extend to the deepest cultural knowledge of the city, connected with history, archeology, tradition, folklore, gastronomy. The ultimate goal is to accompany tourists and, more generally, all interested parties, on guided tours, archaeological, enogastronomic and naturalistic itineraries, providing them with indications, suggestions and stimuli towards a real knowledge of the place. Inside the info-point there is specialized staff, professionals in the sector who, through their work, make their professionalism available to anyone who enters.

Additional Information

In Taranto, in the evocative setting of the Aragonese Castle, the tourist reception office is now managed by the Pro Loco Association of Taranto.
Set up in the Municipal Gallery with an interior design project, wanted and supported by Puglia promotion that focuses on a uniform and recognizable image of all the Info-points of the Region, the Taranto office is currently the sixth Info-point set up according to the winning project of the competition of ideas for the renewal of the environments and the coordinated image of the tourist reception centers organized by Puglia promotion. Our offices focus on the promotion of emotional tourism and are characterized by elements in local stone, by ceramics, by furnishing components that refer to the lights of the patronal feasts, by graphic components that recall the Romanesque and Baroque architectural style of our most important monuments.

Puglia is the first region in Italy that is adopting an approach based on coordinating the image of all the Info-points of the Region. Soon all the Apulian tourist reception offices will be easily recognizable and united by a unique style throughout the region. All the staff are volunteers, in fact they contribute to the territorial-cultural growth of the city with great joy and harmony for free. The Pro Loco of Taranto (office manager) provides both its own authorized tourist guides (with their recognized guide card and tour leader) and the related regional list, from which the tourist can request a possible guided tour.

The Info-point collaborates with Bodies, Associations, Cooperatives, in order to exchange both groups and initiatives. We also carry out internships, PCTO courses (alternation between school and work) with various schools in Taranto and its province, with private bodies, and finally with the University of Bari (with which we have just entered into a curricular internship agreement for training and orientation).

Within the infopoint, ON-SITE ANIMATIONS are proposed in collaboration with local cooperatives and associations such as:

  • Educational workshops aimed at children and not only, whose purpose is to make them discover the beauties of our city through specific guided tours and subsequent workshops to increase their deductive and instructive capacity;
  • Workshops on ancient works (shipwright, pot weaver);
  • Food and wine workshops of typical Taranto recipes.
